The Editors

Mike Mancini, above left, thought he'd grab a few extra bucks from United Airlines, and set out on an interview for supervisor. "He doesn't communicate clearly," scolded United Airlines in interview feedback. "Totally inappropriate!" said another supervisor, shaken and shocked.

Mike has a college degree in Communication with a specialty in graphic design. Mike also has seven years experience as co-owner of Artichoke Graphics. When Mike leaves United Airlines, he will return to self employment as a web & graphic designer, specializing in labor friendly business. He will assist the growing number of Baby Boomers who are choosing self-employment. Mike plans to help that generation build their new businesses.

Greg Brown brings many years of labor and management experience from PacBell,

Local Newsletters Best Layout & Design

First Place—Local Lodge 1782, The Fog Report

These guys have fun, and so do their readers. A bit in your face (Adolph Hitler on cover to illustrate UAL policies), but compelling design (and content) throughout. Sister McBitter harangue is a hoot, and nicely illustrated with photo illustrations. Lots of illustrations throughout, including a takeoff on Gov. Terminator that certainly teeters on the edge of bad taste. Interesting device of using small photos along the bottoms of the pages (shades of the classic Burma Shave ads) calling for solidarity and activism. All in all, very creative.

"Sister McBitter," (a series)
Fascinating and unique, Sister McBitter is provocative, flippant and highly readable. The conversational style and staccato assertions impart chuckles and rueful agreement. A most unique, original, funny and thoughtful feature.

Local Web sites Best Layout & Design

Overall, generally pleasing to the eye despite a fairly crowded content. Follows classic graphic rules, reading left to right and includes adequate white space to keep reader moving. Big and open illustrations and rotating series of photos lends an overall fresh impression.

Left navigation portion with the images that rotate. Good continuity of message and creative use of photos.

Lively, chock full of information, yet well organized and consistent throughout. The kind of page that a member will visit often.

Our sister Local 1781 (SFO Rampers) also took First Place for General Excellence for the Tradewinds newsletter.
